Parc Frederic-Back is located in the borough of Villeray-Saint-Michel-Parc-Extension, in the north of Montreal. Originally it was a limestone quarry, then a landfill. After its full transformation into green space, will be one of the largest urban parks in the city.
Among the other park infrastructure, the main architectural feature is the white spheres that dot the landscape. These protect the biogas collection wells for the biogas-powered power plant nearby; a novel use of the gas emitted from the landfill site under the park.
